Arena tournament registration now open
2009-04-13 00:00:00
Blue poster Vaneras over at the European forums announced that registration for the 2009 World of Warcraft Arena tournament is officially open in Europe. Aratil made a similar announcement for US players a few hours after. They remind all players that participants in the tournament, which follows a 3v3 format, will get the chance to obtain an armored murloc pet or the the exclusive "Vanquisher" title for their characters on live realms. Successful participants will earn slots i...
Arenas to be reset

Along with the many bugs of Patch 3.0.8 was the undocumented new Arena matching and rating system which, similar to the Wintergrasp brouhaha, created disastrous results. Many teams skyrocketed to 2200 ratings, with wins garnering up to 30 points and losses resulting in... nothing. As you can imagine, this newfangled system which Blizzard didn't bother to tell anyone about until after the fact sort of trivialized Arena Achievements such as The Arena Master. Bornakk reveals in that post that the new ...

Is this the end result when one of those flying fighters in Icecrown takes down an Abomination on the ramparts of a wrathgate? Do the armies fighting below get showered in guts and green slime? Actually, no. This is a screenshot of an acid spray taken in Shadowmoon Valley by Hellander of on Shadow Council. If you recall, all the water in SMV is a eye-searing shade of neon green; it's probably infected by whatever hideous algae defaced the sewers of Undercity. Maybe some of the Forsaken jumped in the ri...

As you can see, this is a lovely classical painting of a quartet of angels. So what exactly is it doing on the ceiling of the Chamber of the Aspects in Wyrmrest Temple? Faldrath of on Steamwheedle Cartel snapped this shot using his Eye of Kilrogg. He writes that he's somewhat puzzled as to its purpose. I like to think that since young humans of a geekly persuasion often have dragon-themed clothing and furnishings, teenage dragons would decorate their homes with pictures of people. This is probab...

Will the last person out of Orgrimmar please turn off the lights? Tjais, of (... sigh) of Shadow Council, has started a chain reaction among bored mages hanging around the overpopulated area between the bank and AH. If this reminds you of the ship escape scene from Spaceballs, please let me know so I don't feel like the only complete dork here. Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screen...

Besieged by enemies from the past, present and future, it was all that Dirge (main Wulfkin) of on Argent Dawn could do to take this really wicked screenshot. If only her future self would come around and provide half-hearted help while making snide comments about her skill level! Alas, she'll have to handle this on her own. Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Aroun...

Remember, kids, attempting to re-create real life events in Azeroth often ends in disappointment. The Alterac Valley reenactment of Napoleon's invasion of Russia lost its historical veracity when half the French troops got thrown off the bridge by other French troops with snowballs. The magnitude of the first successful nuclear bomb test cannot be recreated by a couple of bored gnomes playing around with Flamestrike and Hellfire. And, as Eskel of on Argent Dawn-EU discovered, dragons are a bit less buoyant than...
